If you have another PC (PC2), remove your internal HD from PC1 and attached it to PC2 then copy all to PC2 HD.

There are many reasons, you may not need to give up so early.  If the external harddisk has not been dropped on the floor before, you may still try to rescue the data.  Say you may try to use another harddisk case to connect the harddisk.  It is because some cheap harddisk case may have connection problem.   If it is not ok, it is also possible for the damage of the File Allocation Table (FAT) on your harddisk.  Damage of FAT may not affect the data.  So you may go to the Wanchai / Sham Shui Po computer centres and some computer repairing shops may help you to try to rescue the data at affordable cost.
